Akai Pro MPK mini Series | How to Restore Factory Presets

In this guide, we will walk through the steps to restore your MPK mini's factory presets. This will be useful if you are looking for a way to 'factory reset' the keyboard.


Please note: The original MPK Mini Play does not include factory presets.

MPK Mini Plus


1. Download and install the editor software which can be found via: Downloads | Akai Professional | Akai Pro 


Important: Please ensure that you have fully closed down all Music making or MIDI applications before opening and making changes in the MPK Mini editor as other applications may be trying to take MIDI priority of the MPK Mini which will cause issues when saving changes from the editor to your MPK Mini.


2. Open the editor software and click File > Open Program:



3. A pop-up window will appear. Select the following locations for your computer


  • Windows: Documents > Akai Professional > MPK Mini Plus Program Editor


  • Mac: Macintosh HD > Users > 'Your Name' > Documents > Akai Professional > MPK Mini Plus Program Editor.


4. You will find the default programs available for you to load:


 

Note: If your preset files are not displayed after selecting Open Program, this means that you are likely inside of the User Presets folder. Simply click on the upwards facing arrow icon in the top-left section of your file explorer to go back to the MPK Mini Plus Program Editor folder.  


5. To send this preset to the default slot, click File > Send Program



Repeat steps 2-5 for all program slots.


MPK Mini 3


1. Download and install the editor software which can be found via: Downloads | Akai Professional | Akai Pro 


Important: Please ensure that you have fully closed down all Music making or MIDI applications before opening and making changes in the MPK Mini editor as other applications may be trying to take MIDI priority of the MPK Mini which will cause issues when saving changes from the editor to your MPK Mini.


2. Open the editor software and click File > Open Program:



3. A pop-up window will appear. Select the following locations for your computer


  • Windows: Documents > Akai Professional > MPK Mini III Program Editor


  • Mac: Macintosh HD > Users > 'Your Name' > Documents > Akai Professional > MPK Mini III Program Editor.


4. You will find the default programs available for you to load:



5. To send this preset to the default slot, click File > Send Program



Alternatively, you can click S on the relevant program slot



Repeat steps 2-5 for all program slots.


MPK Mini Play mk3


1. Download and install the editor software which can be found via: Downloads | Akai Professional | Akai Pro 


Important: Please ensure that you have fully closed down all Music making or MIDI applications before opening and making changes in the MPK Mini editor as other applications may be trying to take MIDI priority of the MPK Mini which will cause issues when saving changes from the editor to your MPK Mini.


2. Open the editor software and click File > Open Favorite:



3. A pop-up window will appear. Select the following locations for your computer


  • Windows: Documents > Akai Professional > MPK Mini mk3 Favorite Editor


  • Mac: Macintosh HD > Users > 'Your Name' > Documents > Akai Professional > MPK Mini mk3 Favorite Editor .


4. You will find the default favorites available for you to load:



5. To send this preset to the default slot, click File > Send Favorite



Alternatively, you can click SEND on the relevant favorite slot



Repeat steps 2-5 for all favorite slots.
