In this guide we will cover the simple steps to set up your MPC to simultaneously play/record using the pads and keyboard.


1. Create a Drum and Plugin Track:


2. Go to Menu > Preferences > MIDI / Sync:


If you own an MPC Key 37 or 61, configure your settings like so:

Input Ports:

  • MPC Pads: Track
  • MPC Keyboard: Track



If you own an MPC X, XS E, Live, Live II, One or One+, configure your settings like so:

Input Ports:

  • MPC Pads: Track
  • Your class-compliant USB/MIDI controller: Track

Output Ports:
  • Your class-compliant USB/MIDI controller: Track



3. Go to Track View


  • Assign the Drum Track to: MPC Pads
  • Assign the Plugin Track to: MPC Keyboard

If you own an MPC Key 37 or 61, configure your settings like so:



You'll then need to Record Arm both tracks. This is done by holding the Shift button and tapping the Rec Arm icons on both tracks.


If you own an MPC X, XS E, Live, Live II, One or One+, configure your settings like so:



You'll then need to Record Arm both tracks. This is done by holding the Shift button and tapping the Rec Arm icons on both tracks.

Configuring the Pad Note Map (MPC Key 37 and 61 only)


The next step is to reassign your drum pad MIDI mapping. This is important if you are using the MPC Key 37 or 61.


1. Return to Main Mode and select the Pencil Icon on your drum track:



2. Select Edit Pad Note Map



3. Use the Pad field to select a pad, or press the pad on your hardware. Use the MIDI Note field to set the desired MIDI note value for the pad:
