Akai Pro MPC Series & Force | Ableton Link Setup and Tutorial

In this workflow tutorial, we look at how to setup Ableton Link in standalone mode using the built-in wi-fi capabilities found on the MPC and Force. This enables synced, real-time performance and production with any Ableton Link enabled device.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Set Up - MPC/Force

1. On your MPC/Force, go to Menu > Preferences > Wifi or Ethernet and ensure your MPC/Force is connected to a network.

Should you experience issues connecting, please refer to this guide: Akai Pro MPC and Force | Troubleshooting Internet Connection : Akai Professional

2. Once your MPC/Force is connected to a network, go to the Main Menu and tap the Sync field (in the center of the top of the screen) and set this to Ableton Link

Note: This is the same process as going to to Menu > Preferences > MIDI / Sync > Sync Receive > Ableton Link

Set Up - Ableton

1. Ensure your computer is connected to the same network as your MPC/Force

2. In Ableton Live, open Preferences > Link Tempo MIDI and ensure that Show Link Toggle and Start Stop Sync are selected.

Note for Windows: Link will not work without the ASIO4ALL driver. Once downloaded and installed - use it as the driver type and audio device

3. Once you've configured these settings, close the Preferences window

4. Enable Link by clicking its button on the far left of Live's control Bar. You should now see 1 Link representing your MPC/Force

Note: If there are any other Link-enabled devices on the same network their count will also be displayed here.

1. To confirm the link is successful, you will see a moving progress bar in the Arrangement Position display in Ableton

2. You will see a moving progress bar under Ableton Link on the MPC/Force in the Main Menu

3. You will also see the moving progress bar in Main Mode in the BPM (GBL/SEQ) field:
