Note: this article applies only to software authorized through the inMusic Profile system. Any software using the iLok/Pace authorization system can be transferred using the iLok License Manager and may be subject to a fee from iLok. Please visit the iLok Website and FAQ for more details.

All new software titles from Akai Pro, AIR Music, BFD, and SONiVOX are registered directly to the purchaser through the email used at purchase and the corresponding inMusic Profile. Before the license(s) can be sold or transferred to another user, a request must be submitted to remove that license(s) from the owner’s account.

Any license that fits the criteria below can be deactivated and/or transferred at the license holder’s discretion.

  1. License(s) to be transferred must be for a full version of the software title; subscription/rent to own, demo, and NFR (not for resale) licenses cannot be transferred.
  2. License(s) to be transferred must be owned separately from a hardware product. Software licenses included as a part of a bundle for a hardware product are tied to the hardware and cannot be transferred.
  3. Only software licenses authorized through the inMusic Profile are eligible for transfer by inMusic. Any software using the iLok/Pace authorization system can be transferred using the iLok License Manager and may be subject to a fee from iLok. Please visit the iLok Website and FAQ for more details.
  4. The request can only come from the current license holder.

What you will need

The current license holder will need to provide the following details in the request:

  • Software title(s)
  • Full 30-digit serial/license key(s)
  • If the license(s) is being transferred, the seller will also need to provide an email address for the buyer that relates to an existing inMusic Profile.

FAQ

Can I transfer more than one license at a time?

One request can be submitted to deactivate several licenses at once, but a transfer can only be applied to one new user at a time. When a transfer is requested, all licenses on the request can only be transferred to a single user. If multiple licenses must be transferred to multiple users, a separate transfer request must be submitted for each user.

Is there a fee to deactivate and transfer a software license?

Any Akai Pro, AIR, BFD, or SONiVOX software licenses authorized through an inMusic Profile will not be subject to any deactivation or transfer fees. Any software using the iLok/Pace authorization system will need to be transferred using the iLok License Manager and may be subject to a fee from iLok. Please visit the iLok Website and FAQ for more details.

What will happen once I submit the request?

Once the request has been submitted, our Software Support team will review and verify all details. If any details are incorrect or missing, you may receive an email requesting more information.

License transfer requests are usually processed within (1) business day. Once complete, you will receive an email confirming the license has been de-registered along with instructions for the next owner.

What if I choose to keep the software license after it has been deactivated?

This process will remove the software registration and activations from your account and all authorized devices. This will make it available for the next user to register and activate the software. If you choose to retain the license after it has been deactivated, you can simply re-register the software serial to your inMusic Profile and follow the standard activation process to activate your devices again.

What if I want to deactivate a license but do not yet have the account details for the new user?

You may want to deactivate a license before you have sold it to a new user. A license can easily be deactivated and left open until the new user is ready. The seller can provide the serial/license key to the buyer at the time of purchase, and the buyer can simply use the serial/license to register the software to their inMusic Profile.

If you do not have the account details to make the transfer at the time of your request, leave this field blank when submitting the request form. The seller will be fully responsible for providing the serial/license to the new user.
