In most cases, the 'MPC Project failed to load' message will occur if:
- If your MPC project was created in MPC 3 (Standalone) and are attempting to open it on MPC 2 desktop software.
Please note that MPC 3 projects are not backwards compatible on MPC 2 OS (Standalone or Desktop). As such, we suggest the workaround of exporting all tracks in your project as audio files - See this guide MPC Series | How to Export Individual Tracks. - Your MPC project and/or the [ProjectData] folder have been moved from the original save location on your MPC/computer.
- If you have renamed the MPC Project and/or [ProjectData] folder outside of MPC 2/MPC Beats software.
- If you have used unsupported characters such as / * " / \ < > : | ?
It is important to note that MPC projects that have been manually "renamed" will prevent the MPC from recalling the Project Data files.
This is because the project file paths are "hard coded" into the .XPJ file when the session is first saved.
Restoring the Project: To restore the project, you will need to rename the project file (.xpj) to its original name.
If you are unable to remember the name, the [ProjectData] folder for this file could help - as long as the name for this folder has not been changed or modified.
If for any reason you are unable to remember the original name of your project, then sadly you may continue to receive the error message.
Renaming Projects: If you are looking to rename your Master Project file, we would strongly recommend the following:
- Open up the original project file first on your MPC, MPC 2 or MPC Beats
- make a copy via Menu > File > Save Project As
- At that time, you can safely rename the project, and MPC will create a new file for the renamed session.
