Default Installation Path:
By default, expansions are installed in the following location: C:\ProgramData\Akai\MPC\Content
This default path is crucial for the MPC software (MPC Beats or MPC2) to locate and use the expansions from the Expansion Browser.
Strong Recommendation:
Due to the way MPC Expansions are seen in MPC Beats (and MPC2), it is strongly recommended to leave the location as per the installation path. Doing so will allow the user to locate the software from the Expansion Browser on the bottom right of the software. Moving them to a secondary drive can disrupt the way the software reads programs, samples, and projects.
Steps to Move MPC Expansions to a Secondary Drive:
If this must be performed, follow these steps:
Show Hidden Files on Your PC:
Open File Explorer from the taskbar.
Select View > Show > Hidden items.
Locate the Expansions Folder:
Navigate to:
C:\ProgramData\Akai\MPC\Content
.
Move the Files:
Move the entire folder or specific expansion packs to the path of your choice (e.g.,
D:\MPC Expansions
).
Update File Browser in MPC Software:
Open MPC Beats or MPC2.
Navigate to the File Browser in the software and manually add the new location of your expansions.
Verify Content Path:
Ensure the correct path has been selected upon viewing this:
C:\ProgramData\Akai\MPC\Content/[EXPANSION PACK]
.
Caveats:
Moving expansions to a new location will prevent the software from automatically recognizing expansions in the Expansion Browser. You will need to manually browse for content when loading expansions.
Performance issues may occur if your secondary drive is slower than your primary drive.
This process may prevent users from easily viewing available programs, samples, sequences, or projects.
