Akai MPK Mini Plus | Setting Up with External MIDI Devices

In this guide, we will cover the simple steps to configure the MPK Mini Plus with external MIDI devices.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Wall Power

When MPK mini Plus is powered by a wall adapter, MIDI data will transmit to the 5-pin MIDI Out port by default. From here, configure your external device to receive MIDI Input.

Computer Power

When MPK mini Plus is powered by a computer, its MIDI In/Out ports become a fully functional computer MIDI interface. In this configuration, the 5-pin MIDI ports are accessed by selecting them from your DAW’s MIDI Setup or Preferences.

The MPK mini Plus's 5-Pin MIDI ports will appear in your DAW as MIDIIN2 (MPK mini Plus) and MIDIOUT2 (MPK mini Plus)

In this example, we will be setting up the MPK Mini Plus to send MIDI Out via MPC Beats.

1. Enter the MIDI/Sync menu

Windows: Click the menu icon (≡), select Edit, Preferences and click MIDI / Sync

macOS: Click the MPC menu, Preferences and click MIDI / Sync

2. In the Output Port field, enable Track on MIDIOUT2 (MPK mini Plus)

3. Create a MIDI Track, and select MIDIOUT2 (MPK mini Plus) as the Output port

4. Configure your external device to receive MIDI Input.
